Because church is composed of imperfect people, there is no perfect church that possesses all the ideals we all want and look for.

There is, however,
Finding the right church for you

Many people are not discerning in choosing a church to come and commit to, and thus they end up receiving the wrong teachings, committing themselves to causes that aren't really important, and cause their own growth in the Lord to totally stop. Yes, these things do happen to those who go to the wrong church.

The right church, however, will bring good things to the life of any Christian.

Those who choose the right church receive sound Biblical and Godly instruction, find themselves faced with opportunities to exercise their gifts for the right purposes, and allow themselves to receive "nutrients" necessary as they grow in Christ.

Excited to find the right church for you? If you are, here are a few things you should consider when looking for a church.

What to look for in a church

1) Sound teaching

The very first thing that you should look for in a church would be sound teaching.

There are many good-looking, thickly populated churches today but many of them lack sound Biblical teaching. Their teachings revolve on prosperity, their style is worldly, and their aim is to get more people to come and attend, instead of preaching the Gospel of Christ.

2) Authentic and warm fellowship

Are the people in that church warm and sincere in how they accommodate you and your family? If the teachings are Biblically sound and the people are loving and Christ-like, chances are you've found a good church to go to.

Authentic fellowship is a key element to a good church. Believers ought to love one another and serve one another, and pray for each other. This is what God's people should be doing to each other. Hatred and groupings are strong indicators the church is a big no go zone. It's based on politics and dictatorship.

3) Prayer

The church you choose should be one that has a fiery prayer life. Church leaders should be prayerful, and the gatherings characterized with a significant amount of prayer times. God should be central to that church's activities, not the activities themselves.

4) Continuous remembrance of Jesus Christ

The church you choose should always remind itself of what the Lord Jesus Christ has done. Think about it: Christianity is about Him, and when He's taken out of the picture it's not Christianity anymore.

5) The Holy Spirit is the one leading

Many churches might have the first four played out well, but they miss this last factor that's so important, churches will die without Him: the Holy Spirit.

Some churches stifle and grieve the Holy Spirit. Some try to silence and stop Him from doing His thing, while others spread mystical teachings about Him. Both are wrong.
The Holy Spirit should be the one leading the church and not the 'front row'.

TRUE!!

This is the same case with the Jewish nations, many have their hearts and minds covered because they are not new testament Jews, but still old testament Jews, living under the law, but not under grace. Those trying to justify themselves with the old testament do not have Christ. The new testament teaching in and with Christ, is what Jews and Christians should be following.

2 Corinthians 3:
14. However, their minds became closed. In fact, to this day the same veil is still there when they read the Old Testament. It isn't removed, because only Christ can remove it.
15. Even today, whenever they read the Law of Moses, the veil still covers their minds.

False converts hate confrontation. They close up and defend themselves, or, better yet, attack back in order to keep the confronter at bay. They can’t possibly believe that they could have sinned in some way. False converts are prideful and don’t ever own up to sins that they have committed. In other words, they are blind to their sin.

Follower of Jesus, you are right.
There are some beautiful little churches around for people to find where you will find the Holy Spirit at work. They are filled with compassion and kindness and genuine HUMILITY.
It is that genuine humility that is like medicine to those that have come from churches where there is no grace or humility, where the Holy Spirit is not allowed to move and the prosperity gospel is King. Genuine humility is the most attractive to those who are able to recognize it.(By the Grace of God Almighty)

The ACCA had nothing to do with what happened in Europe. It wasn't even the "Gicanov" or "Doroslovac" back then..they were still together. There was only one church. You can't say it was all "Gicanovs" back then. So how can one take that split to back up either side? You can't.

Mirolarad Doroslovac was taken down from eldership back or around in 1945 I guess the Swiss elders tried to resolve the issues with Milorad Doroslovac and the churches problems they had back in their day regarding government land ownership and sins in the church but it was to no avail so Doroslovac group split.
No reconciliation was made and therfore we see the attitude with one towards another in these days also.

What was the reason Mister Milorad was removed from eldership?
Paul Pentsa elder was removed because of his sin, not because of being in the right, yeah?
The Bible says in Isaiah 59:15
Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey. The LORD looked and was displeased that there was no justice.
Someone could have been the prey, because of shunning evil. And, when someone is very vocal against the sin, can make others feel that the person being loud and vocal is in the error. But, not always the case, yeah?
Its not always the case when an elder is removed by other group of elders, that the removed elder was in the error.
Nobody should follow or continue in the path of whatever Milorad committed against the Bible.
Nor, should anyone follow or continue in the path of whatever ACCN or Gicanov elder committed against the Bible.
There is no respect of persons with God.

Ofcourse!!

If we dont look at the Bibles teaching, then it was ok that the church doors were locked.

its clear that you dont know the story, NOR do you want to know, so just keep out of it. CLEAR AS THAT!!!!!!!!!

they locked them out, BEFORE they split.

so, the split was BECAUSE the people locking the doors.

you know even know what you are stating NOR what you are confirming.

simply, DONT COMMENT until you want to realise fact, and until you are willing to understand what happened, and HOW it happened.

doing unto other like you want people to do to you, is Christ's teaching.

if God closes the door on you, are you going to put a smile on your face?
or
are you going to want to have Him put a dead-bolted lock on the door?

I am not approving anything wrong that either side has committed, or either side's elder/s wrongs that has been committed.

sounds like whatever someone states, and its not to your liking, you will try and find a way not to believe it.

well, you have that ability to act that way, but your cannot change the fact, even if you didnt like it happened.

the only way out, is repentance, and confessing those committed sins.

but, I have personally heard with my ears from a number of members who were in that church, and who were actually locked out.

and then those that were locked out, moved to another location to gather, and bought another building for another church..

I am not supporting or justifying either side errors, or either sides' elders' wrong doings, I am stating what happened.

there is NO justified reason to lock ANYWAY our of Gods House.

the only biblical explanation why anyone would want to do this, is clearly written in the bible:

and its because of HATRED.

Isaiah 66:5

Hear this message from the LORD, all you who tremble at his words: "Your own people hate you and throw you out for being loyal to my name. 'Let the LORD be honored!' they scoff. 'Be joyful in him!' But they will be put to shame.

and.....

not only hatred, they will think its right to do it, and even believe its what God wanted them to do...

John 16:2,3

2. They will ban you from the synagogues. In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering service to God.
3. They will do these things because they haven’t known† the Father or me

As per usual someone jumps to conclusions, what was said to have a Lay person running a religion will never work, reason being they don't have the right interpretation of the bible (examples are rampant all through this forum) Theology will help with interpretations, how to be a Person of God, how to teach others, empathise with others, living within your means with no excess, etc.
A Lay person who works outside the Church doesn't have the time and knowledge to dedicate their life to the church.
To be a genuine follower of Jesus Christ is different.

Hello,

I'm writing from Florida, U.S.A. I have been studying Scriptures, praying, and desiring a closer walk with God. I've made so many mistakes. I really don't know anything about the Apostolic Nazarene Church. I know nothing of the elders, historical splits, etc. Through my Scripture studies, I have just found that I believe what many of the conservative Anabaptist congregations believe. A Mennonite referred me to a small Nazarene Church. I believe this congregation is independent of any larger governing bodies. Actually, it seems quite "ethnic" to me because it is composed largely of Serbians and some other eastern Europeans. The people were extremely friendly to me. They truly held close to godly standards from what I saw. The sermons were biblical. However, the form of the Apostolic service is just different from anything I have ever experienced. I was also in a Church with an entire congregation that was quite culturally different from myself. I got scared and I left. However, I've missed those people ever since I left. I really don't want to go down the wrong road and some of my research worried me (such as this website). So... I'm asking. Should I attend this Church or just seek out a Mennonite congregation? If I wanted to join the Church, would I be accepted considering that I am not eastern European? Are there any things I should be worried about? Like I said, about everything in the Apostolic Church is completely new for me. I feel bad about emailing a random person on-line about this, rather than just asking them. However, I didn't visit the Church for very long and I just didn't feel comfortable asking some questions. Your website listed several concerns regarding elder leadership and I'm just hoping this little Serbian congregation is as godly as it seems to me. I don't ever want to join a congregation to have to walk away again and I really don't want to be led astray. I'm hoping you could provide me with some guidance.

Sincerely,

John H.

You will find much imperfections in every church, on every brother or sister, on every elder of a church.
but, what would be "serious fundamental" biblical teachings that we all should not deviate from?
some points i believe would be:
- living a godly and holy life / speech / dress code....etc
- sins unto death
- being in or serving the armed forces / bearing arms
- swearing of oaths
- being in the ecumenical church register
- families having large number of children

which Christians Churches preach and uphold these.....

Dear John,

I feel I should write a proper comment here in regards to your question since nobody else wants to answer you.

This church that you visited, do you recall where it was? I can give you some information about "our" church. The Apostolic Christian Church and Nazarene church is the same thing, the name is used interchangeably. In regards to your questions, no, you don't need to know anything about past splits. It doesn't matter. In fact, this is not what you should be looking for anyway, if you are seeking your soul's salvation. There are a number of our churches in Florida, the one you seem to be referring to is Plant City. The Nazarene church is not a church that you can just "join." There is serious change in your life that is required. The way they do things to accept people is all from scripture. You must go back and correct any wrongdoing that you can think of. Then you confess all your sins to an elder and he will baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. After this, your life is COMPLETELY changed. Nazarenes do not date. They do not go to bars, to movie houses. They mostly keep to themselves away from non-Nazarenes. The standard of holiness is quite high and you will be made fun of in the world. But Jesus said, "take up your cross and follow me." He also said if you are ashamed of Him, He will be ashamed of YOU on judgment day. But it is a beautiful life. It is a beautiful life of serving our Lord daily, and in fellowship with like-minded believers. Of course you can join if you are not Serbian. It's just that in Europe is where our church originated, and then we immigrated here and opened churches throughout the United States. That's why there are so many Eastern Europeans in our church. I encourage you to attend there. Ask questions, they will be more than happy to answer. It's extremely rare (but it DOES happen) that someone from the "outside" becomes a member and that is because of the extremely high level of holiness that is required. You WILL be different. You WILL stick out. Especially the sisters. But the Lord will reward you richly if truly in your heart you seek to serve him. I hope you decide to attend. As you can see on this website, this church is not perfect. There are many problems, but honestly, the church is not this website. This website is where the people with problems come to complain because the elders don't give a hoot to their demands. In all honesty, you will not see this kind of language/talk in everyday church life. Sure, here and there there will be disagreements. But we are human, no? We must strive to serve Him greater that is all. Like I said, being a Nazarene is a beautiful life. And the connection we have with one another is unlike ANY church in the world, and even the meanest, nastiest people on this website will agree with me on that. In no other church in the world can you travel across the country or cross oceans and be welcomed into the homes of fellow believers of this faith to spend the night and yet you have never met them, and STILL have no fear whatsoever of staying with a stranger. I don't care what anyone else says, this is in NO OTHER church except the Nazarenes. Seek Him, and He will reach out to you. Knock and it shall be opened unto you.

Just a word to you John H... don't think that joining the Apostolic Christian Church of Nazarene will give you salvation. NO church will give you salvation, so the "name" is not what saves you. It is your relationship with God that will save you, your faith and walk of life, and it is ONLY through Jesus Christ that you can have salvation. Just don't make the mistake thinking joining any church will save you...and it's not the "joining" of the church. It's repenting, making restitution and being baptized with the water and spirit and living according to the word of God. I have heard too many Nazarenes say that they are saved "because" they are a "Nazarene". Names won't save you and churches won't save you. Get baptized because it is the way you believe and choose to live.

John 3:
3. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

5. Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

1 Peter 1:23
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Titus 3:5
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Romans 6:
6. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
11. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Galatians 5:24
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

1 John 3:9
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

Thanks, for the replies. While I'm aware that joining a congregation does not bring a person salvation, I would like to worship amongst people of similar belief. I had never even heard of the Apostolic Church until a kind believer (from a mennonite congregation) referred me. I've been wrong on a thing or two in the past and have even been part of a congregation that had Biblical elements, but did let worldly influence in for the sake of adding membership. I don't want to be a part of that and God has been good to me by guiding me. As we all probably do, we research things we involve ourselves in and I just found this website. On many posts I've read quite harsh comments, so I asked my earlier questions. Thanks, for the Scriptural replies. As I said, I know nothing of the Apostolic groups or governance concerns. I just know that I had visited a small Nazarene Congregation in Florida and found it to be a wonderful place. They were all friendly, but more importantly, it really seemed like they strived for Scriptural truth. The leadership was shared, the elders were not professional paid clergy, and they really seemed to believe in true repentance. Some things I've read scared me, but I really have missed that little Nazarene Church. I didn't hear anything that wasn't Bible truth the whole time I was there.

May the Spirit lead you forward with the desire He has given and for the reason he is calling you for.
Past events that were not biblical cannot alter the Bibles teaching for all of us today.
The harsh comments were mostly true, however, lets look ahead.

Philippians 3:13
Brothers, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing indeed: Forgetting the things behind and reaching forward to the things ahead,

Gods Spirit didn't lead you to that Church without a reason, or without a cause.

re.
Romans 13:11
Besides this, since you know the time, it is already the hour for you to wake up from sleep, because now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.

2 Peter 1:1
From Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ--To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have been given a faith as precious as ours:

Jude 1:3
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

1 Timothy 1:5
Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

James 2:26
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
